Learning for Life
A Message from the Skill Development Trainer

Ms. Vaishnavi Singh
Skill Development TrainerEducation prepares children for more than examinations. Students also need to understand themselves, communicate clearly, work with others, make thoughtful decisions and respond responsibly when situations do not go as planned.
This is the purpose behind the Life Skills Programme for Grades 3 to 8 at Sriguru International Public School (SIPS).
Through age-appropriate situations and guided activities, students explore skills connected to everyday life. These include recognising and managing emotions, asking meaningful questions, seeking help, communicating without blame, listening to different perspectives, solving problems and turning intentions into realistic plans.
Each session focuses on one meaningful learning outcome. Students think, discuss, make decisions and complete a short written reflection. The facilitator guides the conversation, asks questions and helps students examine the possible consequences of different choices.
The learning becomes progressively more complex as students advance through the grades. Younger students begin with self-awareness, safe choices and simple problem-solving. Older students gradually explore perspective-taking, responsible communication, evidence-based judgement, planning and independent decision-making.
The purpose is not to provide children with a fixed answer for every situation. Rather, it is to help them develop a thoughtful approach to life: understanding what is happening, considering different possibilities and choosing responses that are safe, fair and useful.
Over time, we hope these experiences will help students become more self-aware, responsible, empathetic and confident in handling everyday challenges—both inside and beyond the classroom.
